AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 973, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1993, AS LAST AMENDED BY CHAPTER 964, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1997, TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT THAT THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF OKOLONA MAY IMPOSE AS ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS IN MISDEMEANOR CASES FILED IN THE MUNICIPAL COURT TO FUND NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; TO EXTEND THE REPEALER ON THE LAW AUTHORIZING THE IMPOSITION OF SUCH ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Chapter 973, Local and Private Laws of 1993, as amended by Chapter 932, Local and Private Laws of 1994, as amended by Chapter 964, Local and Private Laws of 1997, is amended as follows:

Section 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Okolona are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on the minutes of the governing authorities, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor filed in the municipal court of such municipality.

(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the municipality to Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information which will lead to the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes and in support of good law enforcement.

(3) This act shall stand repealed from and after July 1, 2003.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
